That’s right, the new Dungeons and Dragons based MMORPG Neverwinter is due to start its “Open Beta” period starting 4/30/2013. Neverwinter is based off of the 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons rule set and works quite well as a video game, as I have said before. Neverwinter is a full free to play MMORPG created by Cryptic and part of the Perfect World group of games.
Cryptic already has a great reputation in gaming as they have made other popular MMO’s. They live up to their reputations with Neverwinter.
One of the nice things about Neverwinter being part of the Perfect World group of games is that you can use your ZEN (The in game currency you can buy for extra things) on any of the games in the network which are also free to play. This means you can jump from Star Trek Online to Neverwinter and use the same money and currency you have purchased with your account. Make sure to look at the details for each game as conversion rates might be different between them.
Neverwinter is calling the opening of their servers Open Beta, but it seems more like an actual release. One of the biggest reasons it seems like a release rather than a Beta is because the characters you create will not be deleted. However, the cash you spend in-game will not be refunded at the end of “Open Beta”. For nearly 2 decades I have been gaming and involved in dozens of alphas and betas. This has always meant that when alpha/beta is over, everything is wiped and you start at the game’s release with a clean slate, money refunded, servers reset, etc. I don’t know why they insist on calling it a Beta because it really isn’t, but I guess that’s the way they are doing things now. The bottom line is, we get to play Neverwinter now! Hooray!
I have written a detailed game review on Neverwinter so if you would like learn more about this new Dungeons and Dragons MMO you can read it here: Neverwinter MMORPG Review
