Defeat Tiamat in a 25-player raid has been added to Neverwinter to take on Tiamat, the Dragon Queen, in the 5th Neverwinter free to play module. This guide is meant to walkthrough this raid to help players defeat Tiamat every time! This raid is a lot harder than most in Neverwinter. It can be discouraging, but if the group works together and knows the tips and tricks to it, you can be successful.
Tiamat Rises
The raid event starts after the Heralds Tiamat finish in the Well of Dragons. This event starts every hour, 15 minutes before each hour. This is a good event to try to run through prior to killing Tiamat since you should be able to get some of the potions you will need for the Temple of Tiamat.
It’s very important to work together and help others learn how to take down Tiamat consistently. Just follow these steps for success:
Player Responsibility
There is a lot of debate on what and who should be able to go in. Here are some good guidelines to follow.
- Gear Score of at least 12,000
At the time of writing this guide, a 10,000 Gear Score is all that is needed to enter, but that’s low in my opinion. The mobs and Tiamat are tough and 10,000 GS will have a rough go of it. If it’s not in the 12,000 GS range, the mobs will just grind through characters. If you go in low, make sure to take lots of potions to keep yourself up and to make up for what you lack in gear.
- Buff with Potions
Also, buffs and potions are very important here. A well prepared group can dominate, but an underprepared group will get stomped. Make sure that you are not one of those that bring the whole zone down. Take all the potions at the beginning (and after you die) of whatever helps your character and class.
- Buff with Scroll of Protection from Dragons
- Buff with Potion of Dragon Slaying
Also, make sure to use a Greater Scroll of Protection from Dragons and a Greater Potion of Dragon Slaying. These will really help during this raid. Get these from Heralds of Tiamat, Dragon Heroic Encounters, or purchased with Dragon Coins from Feldon Strongbeard in Protectors Enclave where Tyranny of Dragons quests are started (#23, north part of map).
- Turn Down Graphics – Lag is BAD and will kill you!
Lastly, if you have a power that tosses enemies away from you, load it! It is far easier to toss the enemies off the cliffs then to fight them all. This makes things MUCH easier!
Raiding the Temple of Tiamat
Be focused and pay attention as you begin the raid. It is timed and you will need all the time you can get.
Enter and Prep for Tiamat Raid
- Join/Create Group
- Buff Up
- Share Tactics
Be ready after the Heralds of Tiamat event ends and enter the Temple of Tiamat as soon as it opens. Make sure that you switch to SAY and PARTY chat! Do NOT use ZONE chat. You will just spam everyone’s instance and confuse things.
Either start forming a group designated by a color (Black, White, Blue, Green, Red) or SAY your class and preferred dragon color, if any. If you form a group, be sure to communicate with the other groups to make sure all dragon colors are accounted for. There should be 25 people in the instance, making 1 group for each color.
Buff up and make sure those in your group know the plan so you all can win. Try putting something like this in party chat.
We are [dragon color]. Kill the [color] summoner, then Severin. Protect cleric nearest [color] dragon. First Dragon wave fight GREEN dragon to 5% then STOP! Then BLACK to 5% then STOP! Then RED until 5% or Clerics return. Protect the SAME cleric as before.
Second dragon wave, fight WHITE to 5% then STOP! Then fight BLUE to 5% STOP and finally RED to 5% and STOP. Wait for clerics again. Don’t kill heads!
Third dragon wave, groups go kill their dragon heads. Then WIN! Remember: stand in green circles to avoid Breath Weapon!
Make sure that the group leader or at least someone in the group has a belt slot open and ready for the Dragon Soul Gem. This item creates short term areas of immunity to their specific color of dragon’s breath weapon. Be sure to put it on a quick bar if you are using it.
Charge the Summoners calling Tiamat
- Kill [color] Summoner
- Collect Dragon Soul Gem
- Kill Severin
- Protect Clerics
Killing the Summoners is straightforward. Just look to the sky and you will see colored beams of light that shine down on them. Head towards the light! Kill the Summoner that matches your group’s color. Make sure that someone takes and readies the Dragon Soul Gem as discussed above. The Dragon Soul Gems must be used for success!
Then head over and unload on Severin. The faster he dies the better!
Next head to the cleric that is near your color dragon to protect it. The first priority is to make sure nothing is attacking them. If they are attacked they will not charge up and can even be lowered. All three clerics have to be fully charged before they can weaken Tiamat enough to attack her.
If you try to go near Tiamat you will take damage if the clerics are not all fully charged. If you linger on the platforms Tiamat will step on you. Yes, literally step on you and squish you dead. Don’t stay on the platforms unless you are supposed to be fighting Tiamat.
The best tactic for the clerics is to have the Black Dragon group protect the cleric nearest them. Then have the White Dragon group protect the cleric nearest them. Then have the other three groups protect the cleric in the center. Then drift over to one or the other clerics if the Black or White groups need help. The reason for this is that the center cleric will end up with more mobs attacking it. Also, this allows the raid groups to easily support the outer clerics if they need help.
The most important tactic for the clerics is to have Powers loaded that will knock enemies away from the clerics. This is important to keep enemies off the clerics but can also be employed to knock enemies off the platform instantly killing them. Use this tactic whenever possible! Every prepared player should have Knockback Powers loaded. When fighting clerics use them so they are tossed towards or off the cliffs. Other helpful tactics are stuns and taunts; really anything to get them off and away from the clerics is vital. If the clerics take too long to charge up, you will not defeat Tiamat in this raid. Efficiency and working together will win the day.
While fighting clerics make sure everyone knows what to do. A /say or /party works well.
All Fight Green to 5%, All jump to Black to 5%, All Move to Red 5%, DO NOT KILL HEADS!
Once all of the clerics are charged up they will cast the spell making Tiamat vulnerable. This is the time to attack her!
Tiamat Dragon Fight Wave 1
- Everyone Attack Green Dragon Head to 5%
- Do Not Kill Green Dragon Head
- Everyone Attack Black Dragon Head to 5%
- Do Not Kill Black Dragon Head
- Everyone Attack Red Dragon Head to 5%
- Do Not Kill Red Dragon Head
- Protect Clerics as Outlined Above
Now is the time for the entire Tiamat raid to work together. Everyone should head to the Green Dragon head and unload. The object here is to get the heads of Tiamat down to 5% and STOP! DO NOT KILL THE HEAD!
The Green Dragon group member with the Dragon Soul Gem MUST make sure they use it when the Breath Weapon is coming or much of the raid will die. Use it when they see the whole platform light up with red indicating the breath weapon is about to the used. It WILL kill players not in the green circle. Also, it is possible to dodge the breath weapon if you time it correctly. If you cannot get to the green circle, or there isn’t one, watch the dragons head. As soon as it moves forward dodge and you may completely avoid the attack. If not, drink a healing potion and pray you live.
Once the Green Dragon is between 5% and 10% health, move to the next dragon. Do NOT kill dragon head!
Everyone should head to the black Dragon head and unload. Players should jump from the Green Dragon platform down to the Black Dragon platform. The object here is to get the heads of Tiamat down to 5% and STOP! DO NOT KILL THE HEAD!
The Black Dragon group member with the Dragon Soul Gem MUST make sure they use it when the Breath Weapon is coming or much of the raid will die.
Once the Green Dragon is between 5% and 10%, health move to the next dragon. Do NOT kill dragon head!
Everyone should head to the Red Dragon head and unload. The object here is to get the heads of Tiamat down to 5% and STOP! DO NOT KILL THE HEAD!
The Red Dragon group member with the Dragon Soul Gem MUST make sure they use it when the Breath Weapon is coming or much of the raid will die.
At some point fighting Tiamat’s Red Dragon head the clerics will lose their spell and need to be protected again. Hopefully the raid got at least some way through Tiamat’s Red Head.
Protect the clerics as outlined above.
If you have not already noticed, the raid is preparing the killing blow on Tiamat. Working together you are much stronger and more efficient in tackling this challenge. The entire raid group has the benefits of all the stacking clerics’ buffs, stacking debuffs on Tiamat, protection of the Dragon Soul Gems, and most importantly lots of players there and available to rescue raid members that fall in battle.
While fighting clerics, make sure everyone knows what to do. A /say or /party works well.
All Fight Blue to 5%, All jump to White to 5%, All Move to Red 5%, DO NOT KILL HEADS!
Once the clerics are fully charged again, it’s time to start Tiamat’s Dragon Head wave 2!
Tiamat Dragon Fight Wave 2
- Everyone Attack Blue Dragon Head to 5%
- Do Not Kill Blue Dragon Head
- Everyone Attack White Dragon Head to 5%
- Do Not Kill White Dragon Head
- Everyone Attack Red Dragon Head to 5%
- Do Not Kill Red Dragon Head
- Protect Clerics as Outlined Above
This time around the entire raid party should head to the other side of Tiamat.
Everyone should head to the Blue Dragon head and unload. The object here is to get the heads of Tiamat down to 5% and STOP! DO NOT KILL THE HEAD!
The Blue Dragon group member with the Dragon Soul Gem MUST make sure they use it when the Breath Weapon is coming or much of the raid will die.
Once the Blue Dragon is between 5% and 10% health, move to the next dragon. Do NOT kill dragon head!
Everyone should head to the White Dragon head and unload. Players should just jump down to the White Dragon platform next to the Blue Dragon platform. The object here is to get the heads of Tiamat down to 5% and STOP! DO NOT KILL THE HEAD!
The White Dragon group member with the Dragon Soul Gem MUST make sure they use it when the Breath Weapon is coming or much of the raid will die.
Once the White Dragon is between 5% and 10%, health move to the next dragon. Do NOT kill dragon head!
Everyone should head to the Red Dragon head and unload. Yes, yes you know what the object is here now and I have repeated it way too many times. Catch the theme? Players don’t know this or don’t pay attention. Spam your group and the raid if necessary with these tactics so you can win. This works great if followed. Get the heads of Tiamat down to 5% and STOP!
Hopefully the raid has Tiamat’s Red Head down to 5%. If the raid gets the head down that low before the clerics DO NOT KILL THE HEAD! Just get off the platform and go wait by your clerics until they need protecting. No need to rush this and waste the work you have already done. You are minutes from defeating Tiamat and sending her back!
Protect the clerics as outlined above.
Then make sure your raid is aware that it is time to split the groups to their individual colors and KILL THE HEADS!
All Fight YOUR COLOR and KILL! Then help others. KILL THOSE HEADS!
Tiamat Dragon Fight Wave 3
- Groups split off to kill their color dragon head.
- Help groups near you finish off their heads.
- Rejoice in victory!
In this final dragon battle wave each group should once again split off and fight their color dragon. They should drop them and kill the heads this time. Unload and do it fast.
Once your group’s head is defeated, head to whichever head has the most health. Then kill that head! Keep doing this until they are all dead and you march to victory!
Random Tips for Defeating Tiamat
- Doing the battle in this way gives the raid the maximum amount of time to kill each of Tiamat’s heads. If they do not all die in one wave then they will reappear the next wave with 20% health.
- When you die,(not IF you die, WHEN you die), make sure you heal your wounds and use potions again. Don’t charge back in while unbuffed and wounded. You will just die again.
- If a head is killed prematurely just leave it to the final wave. There should be enough time to kill it. However, make sure to announce to the raid the tactics that are being used. “Leave heads at 5% until the final KILL in dragon wave 3.
- If a fellow raid member drops near you, revive them ASAP.
- Once a cleric is charged, keep defending it as it can be taken down by enemies.
- Do not fight enemies on or near clerics. Pull them away so the cleric does not accidently get hit when the enemies are attacking you.
- Use the taller dragon fighting platforms to jump to the platforms next to them.
- Different Dragon Soul Gems work slightly differently and should be used a little differently.
- Black and White work like a cure. Use after affected. If used a little early the damage will be deflected but the debuff may not be.
- Red, Green, and Blue act like a shield. Use just before.
I hope that this player guide and walkthrough for defeating Tiamat in Neverwinter helps the players out. Sticking to this strategy will help more and more groups learn how to defeat Tiamat with ease. Make sure to share guide and player walkthrough so everyone can learn how to defeat Tiamat!
